Where to begin? Eleven years ago, I launched a history-focused Facebook page to give back to my town using all my geeky skills (geek is my superpower). What started as a small project has now grown into a thriving online community with over 38,000 passionate followers. Through this platform, I've harnessed the power of social media to celebrate and promote our local heritage, bringing Paisley's rich history to life in ways that resonate with both locals and visitors alike. Today, I'm proud to say that this project has become an integral part of Paisley Developments Limited, where we continue to elevate our town's profile as a must-visit destination, blending cutting-edge technology with deep historical insight.

Favourite Building: Thomas Coats Memorial – Completed in 1893, this building is a testament to the grandeur of its time. Funded by Thomas Coats, it stands as a tribute to his considerable philanthropic contributions to Paisley and beyond.

Favourite historical story: My favourite is Donoghue v Stevenson, the landmark 1932 case from the House of Lords. Known as the "snail in the bottle" case or the "Paisley Snail" case, it began when May Donoghue fell ill after drinking ginger beer that contained a decomposed snail. She sued the manufacturer, David Stevenson, for negligence. The case established the legal principle that a manufacturer owes a duty of care to the consumer of their product. It was established in Paisley and is considered the first case of its kind.

I love this story because it’s probably our most significant global historical case. It’s fascinating to think that every lawyer and judge around the world is taught this case early in their studies. Its impact is so profound that even Judge Judy would be familiar with it, making it a cornerstone of legal education and practice globally.

My Wish for Paisley: My wish for Paisley is for it to stand shoulder to shoulder with other cities and towns in terms of tourism and heritage recognition. I envision a future where Paisley’s rich history and vibrant cultural scene are celebrated and understood as deeply as those of other notable places. By enhancing its tourism infrastructure, promoting its historical significance, and fostering community pride, Paisley can shine brightly on the national and even international stage.
