Meet Paisley Heritage's Founder

Updated: Oct 19

Gavin Divers had an idea to uncover the mysteries of Paisley's past and present, bringing forward the origins of this community outlet.

Paisley Heritage was launched in 2012, with the aim to promote Paisley's significant and proud history and culture.

Originally named, 'Paisley Mysteries', the group quickly transformed into what is it today, with Paisley 'Buddies', from across the world, sharing photographs, videos, stories and legends in the hopes of finding the town's forgotten history.

With this is mind, Paisley Heritage is responsible for discovering the hidden Terrace Tavern and the Paisley Alien Gargoyle, which is featured in Paisley Heritage's branding, along with the town's acclaimed pattern.

"I want to create something - a location - where we can have an archive of amazing stories about the largest town in Scotland."

"I'm originally from Glenburn, in Paisley," Gavin, 38 said. "I set up Paisley Heritage, just over nine years ago, with the aim of promoting Paisley's amazing history and culture. I also have a keen interest in documenting stories from the Paisley community.

"There are so many 'pinch me' moments I have had since launching the group, but Ultimately, the greatest achievement has to be the uncovering of the alien gargoyle - I wanted to increase the awareness of Paisley and bring more people to our town.

"The alien gargoyle achieved both these things.

"Moving into the future, I really hope to see Paisley Heritage being a tourist hub for the people of the town and beyond. I'd love to work with local bodies to help promote them.

"I also want to create something - a location - where we can have an archive of amazing stories about the largest town in Scotland."
